Here are today's tasks.
What does your character think about Joules Corey after she dies?
As I play joules I'll be writing a reflection.
I think the injustice in our societies normality and that in my last hours I felt some kind of comfort in the fact that I'd be leaving a currupted place. Joules is hard headed and strong and I think makes peace or acceptance of her fait. Her (his) last words being more weight shows that.
Be on your own and walk as your character for 30 minutes. Really work on the physical detail.
I decided to have a walk around my local park because I feel as though Joules is really connected to nature and thinks best when she's on her own. Whilst walking I notice that joules is very light on her feet and she's more of a glider and has an indirect walk, I think this is because she can be in her own world sometimes and drift off. She quite socially awkward and doesn't have much friends and I think this is a reflection on her behaviour. She's very observant and notices everything and I think that why she doesn't hold strong relationships with people. On the other hand when she's around others I become more rooted and instead of being a glider, I become a slasher and my walk is more direct. I think this is because I number of things like social status and haterd towards certain individuals like the Putnams. Joules can be judgemental and gets away with being so because there isn't things for people to really dislike or call her out on.
Hope you all have a great new year 😊 -Stuart
Note
The amazing positivity really aided and pathed the way for our process. We were able to really work together and trust each other in the world we were creating. Every rehearsal was constructive and meaningful. For example we struggled a lot in a Act 3 because of our volume, towards the ending on the act it gets more intense and dramatic and people start to talk over each other. But with patience and displine we were able to improve the scene dramatically.
Todays tasks.
1) if Cheever came out as gay in our world of the play what would your character think about it? Write it down.
I don't think joules would care. I see her as an activist or a rebell who is tactile. I don't think people realise how smart or powerful she is. Which can be trickery I think from text to acting there's a difference especially with the original text and the edited version done by Stuart. There is dialogue between Giles and Parris to show clear shifts in power that you don't really get to see in our version.
Giles: I've changed my opinion of this man, John. Mr Parris, I beg your pardon. I never thought you had so much iron in you.
The fact that Giles would say something shows he doesn't care for image or status he has no filter when he speaks and looking at it from swapping the gender and race makes it even more clear to me how much she speaks and blabs on. Which is what gets her in the mess with her sister being accused and later on her death.
2) find something that smells of lavender. Smell it.
Doing this reminds me of the Misogi exercise that we do to cleanse and purify the mind and body. Whilst doing this I can naturally smell lavender the most which is like an instant transporter to Salem. This is helpful because it strengthen your association to Salem and the reason why lavender plays apart of our production.
3) get a year 13 theatre student to commit to coming to our first night of the 14th. Not as an usher
Done, I invited a few friends from the year below in other strands to show there support.
Today's tasks from Stuart.
1) If it was New Year's Eve in Salem what would your characters New Years resolution be?
To not be so judgmental.
2) What is your favourite line in the play? Say it out loud.
Mary: I saved her life today & They be calling us witches Abbey...
I genuily love so many different lines from the play
3) Write a short note of praise to someone else in the company saying why you admire them in rehearsals
To Matues
You worked so hard on creating your character who initially had to lines to one of the most terrifying judge in Salem. I loved that you explored different levels and at times lead with different body parts but still managed to convey and execute your ongoing objectives. The sinister and selfish element really shined through in our rehearsals and our performance. Also I loved the way that you used different objects and props to create interesting and creepy sound scapes that added to the intense atmosphere.
Stuart want you to all bring your shoes for character on Monday.

Ask yourself why does proctor die and what is your characters involvement in his death"
😊
I think Proctor dies because of lust but also his ego. It's partly his thought of what happened between him and Abigil and and sure he's a little older than her. I mention this because women would be shamed at the time for there actions and the men would be over looked but he was fully aware of his actions and what he was doing to the people around him. However I feel that the government at the time would try and get rid of anyone who caused to much trouble or individuals they couldn't control. The fact they Danforth became a women in our production also seems to me that he would of been harshly punished regardless because of Danforth having the pressure of keeping up with appearances and the rival of other males judges in power around her. I don't feel like joules feels responsible for Proctor because he can be hard headed and does what he wants but I think she feels some what guilty that she didn't say anything to Elizabeth.
Very long message form stuart
"Hope everyone is resting and taking care
If I was you I would come in on Monday and run your duet/trio scenes TJ, Izzy, Zoe, Imogen, Jasper. Perhaps the girl gang. Perhaps Molly and Tia want to run Act 4. George and Rob might want to run some impro based on the new power Puttnams. You have to decide. No judgement.
The call for Tuesday is 10.00 to do arranged workshop, We will rehearse as company from 12, Jasper will run a warm up; physical, vocal, character. We then will do an action run. Have lunch and be in costume for 2 with no break until the end of the show.
Thursday call will be 3….
Things to think about
1) Technical Voice…we need to make sure we carry in the space…do your own vocal warm ups and in particular think about projection and finishing Lines and thoughts with clarity
2) Lines…I’m annoyed that people are improing lines. We need to honour the text. Go back to your lines. write out lines that you keep changing and get them right.
3) Ticket sales. We have 90 to sell for the matinee and 110 for the Thursday night. Please keep pushing through social media and other ways.
4) Phyiscal..do some animal exercises to keep placing your character…
5) The world of the Crucible..Think about the Puttnams…Tuesday was breakthrough lesson…keep up that energy
6) Find an article in the paper about someone who has been the victim of injustice…imagine that they are killed because of that…Rebecca, Jules both die, John dies…Elizabeth brings up a child on her own, everyones life is in tatters. Think about our society that we have created and link it to the real world.
7) Don’t get sad about next week. We have two shows to go and we have to build and build. The word on the show is good so we have to deliver.
😎 Write down a nice compliment about everyone in the cast
9) Think about TTA…Alex, Kosi, Hannah, Gabe, Charlie, Tom, Ben….they’ve been amazing…
10) Make your smoking decision. Practice your words with a fag if you smoke. If its not working take it out.
11) Watch something brilliant..some amazing actor, listen to some inspiring music, see a great piece of art and know that the Crucible is that. Brilliant, beautiful, inspiring art"

"Dear Crucibel cast
Tomorrow will come and you will deliver. I am nervous and excited and really calm. Thank you. If I was you today I would rest, exercise, eat well, sleep well.
If you want to do any character work then ask yourself some fun questions about your character. Think about how your relationship with them; what similar between you and your character? What are your differences? This might continue the connections you are making.
Ed..you could send people some research if they want to read more.
The call time for tomorrow is in costume by 1.30. we will then do a dress run, notes and rework anything that comes out of the dress. There will be a theatre photographer throughout the dress.
Keep the dressing room neat
Be nice to anyone from tta who has helped with the show.
Robin…can you bring different shoes for Mrs Puttnam..yesterday they were too clunky…something a bit classy but black, white, red or blue please….
If you are bringing in any additional bits of costume; jewellery, rings etc just think it through and make sure Hannah or I clear it…
Try and sell 4 more tickets before tomorrow. If you are in Woyzeck tonight I think it will be very exciting..always, always say nice things about other shows you see…
Sleep well"
